The pincushion cactus, a compact visual cousin of the barrel cactus, offers a playful take on desert shapes. Cactus-on-flowering-cactus is the order of the day, as geometry, beauty and nature intersect as if rounded, succulent parcels. This piece is part of the Desert Vintage series: desert flora painted in layers using aged wine, ink, and water washes. Even with smooth fine art paper, texture is built and a puckered character can be seen on the page.
