In Renaissance Italy, and later in France and throughout Europe, a popular troupe of comedic performers called the Commedia Dell'Arte traveled around, entertaining with their group of stock characters. Among these was Pierrot, a naive, wistful clown that was always pining for unrequited desires. Here, Gilat Ben-Dor has painted him in a contemplative garden, highlighting the sweetness of this oft-overlooked character.
